Violent Fields BaCC: Introduction

In 1982, the inhabitants of Oak Valley were visited by people from outer space. Sadly enough they didn't recognise the aliens as friendly and attacked. The battle that followed left a wasteland; the survivors moved to other places, such as Riverview and Desiderata Valley nearby. The lush valley turned into a desert and with it's environmental change the name changed as well; it was now commonly known as the Violent Fields. In 1997, fifteen years later, an idea sprang to mind. Why not try again to turn the wasteland into a healthy and rich town? The government searched for volunteers and finally found eight willing adults in the prime of their life to leave their former life behind. Children or elders weren't allowed to apply, as the wasteland now contained a lot of wildlife, which could potentially be dangerous. We follow the lives of five families who went to the Violent Fields, with a tight budget and only a few personal belongings.

Year 1: March 1998

Victory Lane 1 - Evercreech Family

Harold Evercreech

Harold has just graduated from university and originally comes from Riverblossom Hill. He wasn't interested into taking over the farm of his parents; he was a scientist. Violent Fields was an interesting choice, but also a very logical one; no one had ventured into the wastelands since the big battle of 1982 and the aliens left their mark on the landscape. Maybe the once very green valley contained new flora, or even a new species. Needless to say, he went there for scientific reasons. His dream? Writing a book about the aliens that had visited the wasteland, possibly even attracting them. He did bring his telescope and outer space sign book. The government has chosen him as the unofficial leader, or mayor from the town.

Victory Lane 2 - Barnes Family

Bonnie Barnes

Bonnie was a normal child, with black hair, light blue eyes and most of all, fair skin scattered with freckles. Everything changed in her teenage years. Her father was researching non human life and was just performing a few tests. They were harmless and things were never permanent. She'd feel ill for a few hours, but after that everything was back to normal. She had chosen to become a test subject willingly; it was her job, to have some extra cash when going out. However, one night, it went wrong. Her eyes turned completely black and her skin... her skin. It turned grey and blue and liveless and covered into splotches. Over the years, her ears also grew in a strange manner. Scared of her own appearance, she covered herself up, locked herself in the house, dropped out of high school and became a recluse. When her father - feeling guilty - pointed her on the advertisement of the wasteland, she applied. As long as she got out of Bridgeport, where no one knew her, where people hopefully didn't mind her as she was right now.

Victory Lane 3 - Twiddle & Rosier Family

Fabian Twiddle

Fabian and his sister, who are from Belladonna Cove, were tired of their live in a tiny apartment with nosy and noisy neighbours; their apartment full of leaks, often broken utilities and mould in the bathroom. Fabian had just graduated from university as well, and he wanted a garden. A big, amazing garden full of trees, flowers, fruit, vegetables... but their apartment didn't even have a balcony and every single house in Belladonna Cove was too expensive. Taking his residence into the wastelands was free, sponsored by the government. The fact that the ground is probably not fertile at all didn't seem to bother him. He likes a challenge.

Erin Twiddle

When Erin heard that Fabian had signed up for the adventure into the Violent Fields, she had been angry. Violent Fields was a long trip from home; even Lucky Palms and Strangetown were closer. The wasteland was literally on the edge of the map. After a lot of thinking, she finally applied as well; with her art degree she hadn't found a job yet, and just like Fabian she was tired of the apartment they lived in. It would be years before they would be able to move out. She doesn't know yet what she's going to do in the wasteland, but it certainly was going to be better than floor six in the city.

Phoebe Rosier

Phoebe was Fabian's childhood friend. They got out of touch when they both went to a different university; Phoebe, with roots in Strangetown, was supposed to go to La Fiesta Tech, while all the other inhabitants from Belladonna Cove usually went to the Sims State University. After graduating they found each other again, although Phoebe noticed that Fabian had changed; it wasn't the rascal and rebellish guy she used to hang out with. When Fabian asked her to go along, she said yes in a split second. Much to the dismay of Erin. As children, Erin had often been the victim of their pranks. But sure Phoebe grew up. Right?

Victory Lane 4 - Jonasson and Potts

Geoffrey Jonasson

Unlikely friends; a phrase often heard when people saw the two together. And they were right in one way; they were opposites, not just in appearances, but also in personality, ideas and view on life in general. Geoffrey was born in Veronaville but quickly moved to Appaloosa Plains when he was still a toddler. His parents got sick of the vete in Veronaville and searched for a much more peaceful place for their child to grow up. It was an amazing town to live in and he loved the wild horses, dogs, cats, all the critters - and he swore he had seen an unicorn one night, but no one believed him except for an old little grey woman, always mumbing and sitting in her rocking chair on the porch. He had never wanted to move out. However... on a very onfortunate day, when he was at work, a meteorite fell. His parents and his dog passed away. The house was ruined. After the funeral he didn't have a lot of money left and on top of that he lost his job. He was about to be evicted from his home, when the opportunity came to leave. He grabbed it with both hands.

Feliks Potts

He didn't have any siblings nor friends in Appaloosa Plains, and was so happy when Geoffrey moved in next door. He had finally someone to play with; no one in the town was his age, and that age gap was just... too big. The two quickly became friends and Feliks was his personal tour guide; his family had grown up in Appaloose Plains for generations and he knew all the secret spots. They went to university and Feliks graduated with an economic degree. He also developed a obsessions with fedora hats, something Geoffrey often teases him about. After the unfortunate accident with his neighbours he decided to help his friend out. However, it was clear that even the money he'd given Geoffrey wasn't going to help his case, and when his friend announced he was moving to the Violent Fields, he decided to go with him. He had more than one reason; one of the reasons being rumours, people gossiping about. After all, it was such a coincidence that the house of the Jonassons was in complete ruins, while their only neighbours survived without even a scratch....

Victory Lane 5 - Valerie Steward

Valerie Steward

This girl was the Oprah of Starlight Shores. With both her parents being famous in the movie industry, it wasn't a surprise she gained fame by starring in commercials and romantic comedy movies. Even as a child, she was a celebrity in her hometown and her parents put her money aside for later. After having led a fairly normal life during school and high school, she went to university. And that's where things went wrong. Her parents got robbed and she was forced to drop out of university, because they couldn't pay the bills. That's something they had never experienced before. Disappointed, and going crazy because of the paparazzi who kept asking her for interviews about the recent happenings, she applied to go to the wasteland. She was tired of being famous and just wanted a quiet life. But wishes don't come true...do they?
